Within the scope of preparing the establishment of the Greek derivatives exchange market, recently launched in Athens on the 27th of August 1999, the regulatory intervention has been of a great importance.
The main emphasis by the Greek regulators and other market participants has been given on the organisation of this market and the establishment of certain minimum standards in relation to various aspects of supervision and organisation of the investment companies, known as Investment Services Firms, which participate as Members of the Derivatives Market (A.E. S.A.) and the Athens Derivatives Clearing House (ADECH). The adoption and implementation of relevant rules ensures the required transparency of the derivatives market, minimising at the same time any type of risk related to these transactions, such as credit risk, systemic risk etc.
Rules and Regulation of Derivatives Market and ADECH constitutes a codification of the enacted regulation of the Exchange Market with respect to the above issues.
